Situated near the head of the Chamonix valley, close to the Mont Blanc Tunnel which leads to Italy, and close to the Swiss Border, Chamonix is ideally placed for discovering the Alps. It is a thriving, bustling town steeped in tradition, with many excellent restaurants and bars, which offer a warm and friendly welcome. The town also offers many other activities and with a fantastic sunshine record, is a great place to relax and watch the world go by.
In Winter there are several skiing areas in the valley, offering a wide range of skiing both on and off piste for all levels of ability. Beginners will enjoy the ski areas at Le Tour, Les Houches and the Brevent, while those looking for the challenge of steeper slopes and fantastic powder may prefer to head for the Grand Montets. Even intermediate skiers may consider spending a day off piste, descending the famous "Vallee Blanche" with a guide. For the non skier there are plenty of views to enjoy, and many of the mountain restaurants are accessible for people who prefer not to ski.
In Summer there is a wealth of fauna and flora to discover, breathtaking views to enjoy, and local villages with street markets to visit. You may wish to explore the surrounding area with its lakes and mountains.
